Brought up in the church, I was surrounded by Gospel music and passionate,
inspiring singing. I had no choice but to sing - it was all around me. My
first solo performance was when I was four years old. I sang "Jesus Loves me
this I know" at church whilst lifting my skirt up to the microphone as I sang!
It was my parents proudest moment!
All joking aside, I have been singing for as long as I can remember.
I began by singing duets with my younger sister. At the age of 15,
my friends and I formed a Female Close Harmony A Cappella group
called Sweet Harmony. As female close harmony songs were hard to find,
I arranged most of our music. We travelled around London singing at various
churches and even bars anf universties. Our pure tones and blend and close
harmonies seem to attract alot of attention. (Oh yes, we also sang on buses
and trains!)
At the age of 16 I became a member of the London Adventist Chorale which
at the time was directed by Dereck Hoyte and Ken Burton. The LAC is a
classical gospel choir whose repertoire covers negro spirituals, Jazz gospel,
A Cappella gospel and Classical gospel. The choir enjoys singing very
complicated and delicious harmonies, sometimes going up to 13 parts!
During my 4 years with the London Adventist Chorale as a 1st Alto, I did
many live concerts, radio and TV performances and sang when we won the
Sainsbury's Choir of the year in 1996.
I have many TV and Radio performances including Songs of Praise, Eastenders
Xmas Special and How Clean is Your House!
I have been involved in different studio recordings and albums, as part of the
London Adventist Chorale, as a backing vocalist and as a soloist for a
Christian musical called Redemption Song. I am also currently working on my
own album (very, very slowly!)
From there I have sung in many different groups and Praise Teams singing
mostly Contemporary Gospel music.
I currently run a Community Gospel Choir called Pure Gospel Community
Choir. The choir covers all styles of gospel and religious music from
contemporary gospel to classical gospel to A Cappella gospel to
negro spirituals. My aim is to expose the choir to all the styles of music that
I love singing all in one place.
I also continue to sing solo, sing in groups and run Gospel Choir Workshops.
As you may have been able to tell, I am very friendly and easy going with an
absolute passion for singing. Although I love to have fun, I do take my music
very seriously. As a tutor I am fun and exciting and precise. You will find
that you will have lots of fun and do lots of work all at the same time.
My motto:
Have Fun - Work Hard!!
